Lotte Duty Free (CEO Lee Kap) will conduct full-fledged CSR activities in one of Korea's major tourist attractions Jeju to revitalize the local tourism industry.

Lotte Duty Free selected “Seoseobang Dakgalbi,” a famous local restaurant in Nuwemaru of Jeju, as the first restaurant for "Nakhyangmisik" and held a ceremony to hand them a menu book for foreigners.

A number of officials, including Kim Min-yeol, the head of Lotte Duty Free Jeju Store, and Hong Shin-ae, a culinary researcher, attended the ceremony. Hong Shin-ae is a consultant for the Jeju Nakhyangmisik project, providing assistance and advice on creating menus, cooking processes, and restaurant hygiene to support small business owners participating in the project.

Seo Tae-won, the owner of Seoseobang Dakgalbi, said, “Lotte Duty Free’s Nakhyangmisik program help us offer better services to our customers. I am absolutely satisfied to get a consultation from chef Hong Shin-ae.”

Nakhyangmisik, meaning "beautiful food to enjoy the pleasure," is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project of Lotte Duty Free that improves tourist convenience by finding local restaurants, creating menu books for foreigners, and providing culinary consulting. Starting with 11 restaurants in Myeong-dong of Seoul, this project is expanding nationwide. Lotte Duty Free also plans to advertise the selected restaurants through its official social media accounts and website.

Jeju Nakhyangmisik project will continue until December this year at approximately 11 restaurants in Nuwemaru, Jeju. The new menu book for foreigners is expected to enhance customer satisfaction among foreign tourists in Jeju.

Lotte Duty Free’s passion for Jeju never ends. A Jeju version of "Lotte Duty Free Young Entrepreneurs & Local Economy Win-Win Project" is in progress under the title "Cheongchuleonyam."

Lotte Duty Free Young Entrepreneurs & Local Economy Win-Win Project is designed to contribute to creating local jobs and revitalizing the economy by laying the foundation for growth of young entrepreneurs. It is well-received in that it is a 100% donation type unlike the existing support programs that are in the forms of for-profit equity investments or loans. Lotte Duty Free launched its first project to foster young entrepreneurs and revitalize tourism in Busan in the first half of this year, and Cheongchuleonyam is its second destination.

The company accepted applicants until the 25th of last month. 18 teams that passed the document screening and the first face-to-face interview presented their business overview from November 14th to 15th. Along with the business models, Cheongchuleonyam project focused more on the business' relationship with Jeju and long-term operation in the island. 11 teams selected through face-to-face interviews will be provided several programs, such as financial aid, business consulting, one-on-one mentoring, and advisory services. A demo day will also be held once the programs end to help the participants attract more funds.

CEO Lee Kap said, “I believe Lotte Duty Free's CSR projects will contribute to the revitalization of tourism in Jeju, which is one of Korea's leading tourist attractions. We will not only promote the local economy and tourism but also move forward as a leading company that strives to improve the quality of Korean tourism industry.”
